Jojo Update

Image
Jojo is doing so well... she still has va limp leg from time to time,  and her back will often have a hump. But... I could not believe the energy this little girl had tonight.  She insisted on playing chase either her rubber toy... would not let me watch my show, without breathing at me v to throw her toy,  constantly. I finally called her down by putting cheese in her long. LOL! I love my Jojo!

JoJo's Journey Update

Image
It has been 1 month since we found JoJo helpless and unable to use her back legs. Instantly we became frightened and wondered if JoJo could love her life while living with type of handicap. Gene and I heard from a couple of our friends who had experienced the same injuries with their dachshunds, and all-in-all they shared a positive outcome, but time-lines were much different. Jennifer Bollin told us that she brought back two her fur-babies back to almost full recovery. She had placed them in laundry baskets for three months and rubbed their backs with pain reliever with DMSO. Brenda and Debbie Kurtz also shared the experience they had with "Brutis"; she had two other 'healthy' dachshunds in the home and became a bit depressed when he could not play with them because his back legs just wouldn't work. But, Brenda purchased 'Wheels' for Brutis which brought 'life' back into his heart as he was able to roam around with the other dogs again. Once B...

JoJo's Journey

Image
Earlier this week, I was quite certain that Jojo was just hanging on. She was peeing and pooping normally each day and she would sit in her kennel throughout most of the day and hang out with us on the couch in the evening and sleep in her basket on our on bed at night. Gene and I felt guilty last week because one day, while we were visiting mom next door, Jojo escaped her 'unlocked' kennel, made her way through the house, out the doggie door and all the way over to moms. We feared that this 'stunt' would set Jojo back and damaged what (if any) progression had been done. BUT... Jojo then started progressing along a little bit further this week. She had two more acupuncture appointments with Dr. Drake at New Frontier Animal Medical Center. On Friday morning Gene had witnessed Jojo getting herself to the standing position with both of her back legs for just a fraction of a second... but this was progression and later that day at her 2nd acupuncture appointment this ...

Jojo's Journey

On Friday, Jojo went back to New Frontier Animal Medical Center for her 2nd Acupuncture treatment.  She did very well! Still had a few little squeals, but Dr. Drake stood her back end up and she had some strength there! We were proud and hopeful once again. We felt as if there was already some  improvement! She is following instructions so well.  We are adding physical therapy to her daily schedule... some standing and tickling the feet! She had a long day! Acted like herself for most of the day, became aggravated when Hailey or someone would move too fast around her. And we were late getting her to her meds, but we all made it through another night.  Saturday, is starting to feel a little like the new normalcy in the Grinde home. We try to keep Jojo focused while we watch for her to pee and poop; this task can be difficult because she is always interested in the kittens and in return the kittens like to tempt her; or they are curious as to why she is not ch...

Jojo's Journey

August 23, 2018 (First Night and Day Two) Last night was a long night... I felt just like a mother watching over a sick baby. At 2 am I brought Jojo her bowl of water, but she still had not wanted to drink. I held up her bowl of food and she gobbled it down which made me feel a little better. I had a hard time falling a sleep while listening to Jojo's whimpers from inside her crate. I had already moved the crate from the end of the bed to my bedside... being next to my bed made it a little more difficult to get in and out of the bed, but wanted her closer so I found a way to manage.   Jojo's sleeping habit is under the covers and lying right up against Gene - making it difficult for him to move. When Gene would wake at 4am for work, she would them move closer to me. We also shared the bed with Heidi and Angel (thankfully we all share a King size bed, LOL). So tonight, with Jojo in her crate next to the bed, things were 'amiss' for all of us. And I decided I ...

Jojo's Life

Image
JoJo brought joy into our life from the first day we saw her. OK... she also brought us 'loss of sleep', but she was too adorable to let the lack of sleep bother us. Hailey and Jaida went with me to pick her up in Buckeye Arizona. She was just a little thing and we tried to protect her throughout the day. We named her Jojo after watching "the Bachelor" and knowing that JoJo Fletcher would be the following season's Bachelorette. This lovely miniature Dachshund was the first pet that Gene and I adopted together. We found her in Yuma Arizona and her face drew us in.  Once we brought her home, the grandchildren fell in love with her too, however the attention from the grandchildren frightened Jojo just a bit.  She continued to show us that this was her home. She slept with us every night and loved to chase the cat down the hall at night.  Life was good, Jojo enjoyed taking rides with us and joining us on some of our adventures. Jojo and Heidi (our 11 y...
