Jojo's Journey
August 23, 2018 (First Night and Day Two)
Jojo's sleeping habit is under the covers and lying right up against Gene - making it difficult for him to move. When Gene would wake at 4am for work, she would them move closer to me. We also shared the bed with Heidi and Angel (thankfully we all share a King size bed, LOL). So tonight, with Jojo in her crate next to the bed, things were 'amiss' for all of us. And I decided I did not like this situation.
I believe Dr. Drake suggested a crate simply to keep Jojo secluded so she could stay relaxed - right? So... I tried laying her on the bed, but, she then tried to move towards the foot of the bed, and I realize this is not what the Dr. ordered.
I am not able to reach through the crate to touch her, to comfort her! Nope! This will not work!
And at 7am, I was so tired and Jojo was making noises that are unsettling. So... I got out of bed and took her outside to see if bathroom services would be used. Finally!.. she peed... this is another positive - right? Now.. can I squeeze in a few more zzz's before taking on the day? Perhaps if I give Jojo her prescriptions; 1 tablet Prednisone and 1 tablet Gabapentin, she may just relax a bit so I could catch a few more minutes of rest. But, I just laid there... as my mind wandered to figure out a better situation for us all.
When I was ready to head out for work I had it all figured out! My big basket would make a great relaxing bed for Jojo! So, out the door we went.. and once we were at my office, Jojo settled comfortably under my desk in the basket. She looked restful and when visitors came to the office, they had treats for her.
Last night was a long night... I felt just like a mother watching over a sick baby.
At 2 am I brought Jojo her bowl of water, but she still had not wanted to drink. I held up her bowl of food and she gobbled it down which made me feel a little better.
I had a hard time falling a sleep while listening to Jojo's whimpers from inside her crate. I had already moved the crate from the end of the bed to my bedside... being next to my bed made it a little more difficult to get in and out of the bed, but wanted her closer so I found a way to manage.

At the office I spoke to a new friend who shared with me her experience with Acupuncture. She stated that acupuncture has really helped her, and that while the first session was quite painful, each session became less painful and she now has no pain and full use. This news helped me to better understand what Jojo may be feeling. THANK YOU, Val! A...another one of GOD's angels delivering me a message.
Throughout the day friends reached out to us and shared stories of their experience with their loved dachshunds and they prevailed the obstacles like Jojo's situation. One friend kept her dachshunds(two) in a basket for three months with DMSO pain relief. And another friend gave her dachshund wheels, which he loved, and eventually gained 90% of his legs back. Again, GOD works through others to bring us comfort and hope!

We are relaxing now on the couch, Jojo has peed and pooped, she is eating and drinking... and Heidi is still by her side to protect her. Jojo may not be using her back legs today and she may be in pain, but she is also displaying some normalcy and is still wagging her tail. We are very hopeful, but also prepared for less than perfect conditions and we will continue to trust in our Lord.
