A Quilter's Heart Stitches a Special Gift
I never had a quilt made for me; not until this past Christmas, when we received the gift we have been told about for years; and now, here it is! ...over the year's I've watched family members create some beautiful quilts. And my husband has told me stories of where the quilts came from that were left in my home. I love the fact that each quilt is created with 'heart' and made just for you!
This quilt was a thoughtful wedding gift. Gene's Godmother, we just call her mom, specifically selected a pattern with crosses, knowing that we have a love for Jesus. She carefully selected the material, too! Although I think she might have changed her mind once or twice. The colors represent our wedding colors, and the back is a beautiful brown with with a spec of color. I don't remember how many pieces are in this quilt, but I remember 'mom' telling me, and it was A LOT! Look at it... each full square is about 16 pieces that had to be cut out and sewn together... for a California King bed! Plus, there is the outer area and trim work, and batting of some sort and a backing! The time and effort mom put into this gift is so heart-warming and I feel honored that she took the time to create something specifically for Gene and I in mind.
I know that Love went into every stitch! Each time I make my bed, I brush my hand over the quilt and see her hands and heart in each piece, and when I see a small piece of thread, it reminds me of the time she spent stitching up her masterpiece. And as I smooth out the 'comforter', I see the excitement and pride on her face the day she brought it over and we spread it out, and I feel very blessed that her love created this gift for me and my husband.
Whether a quilt is a gift, a purchase, or a prize... it was created for you when the quilter stitched their heart into their "master-piece".
Imagine, sitting there for hours with timeless cuts and endless thread. Adding the creativity of material that was selected for a specific reason, season or person; and watching this quilt develop before your very own eyes. Then you stop for a moment, you look at the stitches and colors, and wonder who will be wrapped up in your quilted hug? Will this quilt be given to a charity for an auction because you want to give back to the community, or will it go to a nursing home to comfort someone as life gets a bit harder. Is the quilt for a child who will be reminded of you as they grow or should you keep the quilt for yourself because you don't want to let it go. . .
I hope the next time you see a quilt, you think about the quilter and see her heart stitches.
Thank you, Margo mom, for the gift of your hug, that will be in our home forever. You are amazing!
~Love, Wendee
